A Note on Diagnosis of Malaria Disease

The microscopic study of blood using blood films has been the mainstay of malaria diagnosis. Although blood is the most common sample used to obtain a diagnosis, saliva and urine have both been studied as less invasive alternatives. Modern procedures based on antigen testing or polymerase chain reactions have recently been discovered, however they are not frequently used in malaria-endemic areas.
