Optimal Care for Elderly in Transition…Lessons Learned

Annemarie De Vos*

The elderly population in the Netherlands is expected to increase from 2.5 million in 2010 to 4.1 million in 2030. Of these, a quarter is frail. Since the proportion of older elderly is expected to increase more dramatically from 2025 onwards, demographic analyses predict that the number of frail elderly will increase more rapidly than the number of elderly of 65 years and over. In 2030 we expect to have just over 1,000,000 frail elderly.
