A Biogeochemical Model for an Amazonian Region Estuary, Northern Brazil

Marlon C França

The estuarine environment is a major supplier of nutrients to the coast, because of its high load of material originating in the drainage basin. Thus, showing a high productivity and forming an ecosystem characterized by the occurrence of various animal and plant species. This environment is characterized by having gradients of salinity and temperature, a high hydrodynamics and changes in composition and texture of sediment, which determine the structure and dynamics of associations of benthic organisms. This work provides a survey of benthic individuals, sedimentological and chemical data which have been use for monitoring in estuarine ecosystem on Salinópolis, Northern Brazil.
